SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 14

Requesting the division of highways to name the new bridge in Richwood, Nicholas County, West Virginia, the "Jim Comstock Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, The name of Jim Comstock has become synonymous with his publication, the West Virginia Hillbilly, a statewide newspaper published weekly which was a rich blend of West Virginia's heritage, history, folklore and culture; and
Whereas, Jim Comstock became a legendary publisher in all sects of society and earned the title of "Dean of West Virginia Country Editors". He is also remembered for instituting the "University of Hard Knocks"; and
Whereas, Sadly Jim Comstock passed away in 1996 at the age of eighty-five and will be missed by all who knew and loved him; and
Whereas, As a fitting tribute to the memory of this outstanding West Virginian, the new bridge in Richwood, Nicholas County, West Virginia, which intersects routes 39 and 55 should be named the "Jim Comstock Memorial Bridge" as a lasting memorial; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the LegislatureSenate hereby requests the West Virginia division of highways to name the new bridge, located in Richwood, Nicholas County, West Virginia, which intersects routes 39 and 55 as the "Jim Comstock Memorial Bridge" as a lasting tribute to this outstanding and dedicated West Virginian; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the West Virginia dDivision of hHighways.
